Here are a couple more picture from the golf tournament in honor of my father-in-law.

Sitting IN the table
As we wait out Hurricane or Tropical Storm Sandy, here are some of the kids recent antics. Derek has recently taught Brooke how to climb inside the coffee table. Yes, you read that correct.
Let me explain for those who have never seen my coffee table. The coffee table pulls up to be a tv tray of sorts. The "cool" factor was enough for to purchase and refinish it to match the rest of our family room furniture years ago. Who knew it would be one of our kids favorite toys???
Long gone are the days where I had books or candles or really anything on my coffee table. So, I don't really care if they climb in it. Cheap entertainment...they will not be able to fit in it forever. :)

Birthday Party Fun
We recently attended a birthday party for our friends one year old daughter. Derek decided he wanted to have a monopoly on all the toys. On the other hand, all Brooke wanted to do was eat the ice out of the drink coolers.
Dessert was s'mores over a campfire. It was Derek's first time making a s'more and he enjoyed letting the marshmallow burn over the camp fire. I made him a s'more and all he wanted to eat was the chocolate...go figure.
It was a long day for the kids and the both fell asleep minutes into the car ride home.

Rock!
I don't know what it is about my rocking chair, but ever since we moved it into the family room both kids think it is some kind of ride. Brooke will get in the chair and yell (yes yell) "Rock!" and Derek tries to go as fast as he can. Of course, its always a fight who gets to go first.

Golf Tournament
Dear Dad,
On Saturday, Immanuel held its Invitational Tournament. I know, its been a few years, but they brought it back. Actually, it was in remembrance of you. It was Gary and Doug's idea and a pretty good one at that.
You know, Mom made the comment that it was so quiet on the course, and she finally understood what you meant when you said that you did your best thinking on the course.
On the way to the course, Derek was asking me if you were going to play on "Daddy's team". I reminded him that you were in heaven with Jesus. He very calmly said, "Its okay, Mommy. He's all better" and without skipping a beat he asked "Mommy, is Papa playing golf in Heaven with Jesus?" At that point I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I told him that if there was golf in Heaven that you would be playing all the time.
You would have been proud to see how many guys came out to play. 10 teams for a total of 40 guys! Chris, Mike, Gary, & Sparky played together. They talked strategy for 2+ weeks. No joke. They wanted to win so bad.
They had the Jack Jones Longest Drive hole. Number 17, actually. Sparky had the longest drive for most of the tournament. He claimed the Senior Tees helped him. Mike and Chris crushed their drives longer than Sparky's actually but theirs were in the rough so they didn't count. Everyone said that longest drive was your favorite. You had the trophies to prove it to. :)
Well, Ronnie actually won it. Yes, he really hit a house through the woods and back into the fairway to win the longest drive. The story was awesome, and I can hear you saying, "come on, really?".
Gary won the closest to the pin. Big shock, right?
Well, your boys won. Chris, Mike, Gary, and Sparky won by one stroke over Doug's team. They had to sweat it out in the clubhouse since Doug's team was the last off. They won the Jack Jones trophy. I know you are proud of your favorite golfing buddies.
Chris and Mike played so well. They both have you to thank for giving them the golf "bug". I know you were so proud of both of them and you would have been so proud of the way they played on Saturday.
Love you,

Derek and the "Widdle Apple"
Derek is obsessed with small things. So, when we went apple picking, it didn't surprise us that he wanted a "widdle" apple just like he wanted a "widdle punkin".
Well, he found one, and it was rather cute. I can't remember the last time I have seen one so small. It was about half the size of the ones you would see in the grocery store. Here is a size comparison against my lens cap. It was the only thing I thought to grab at the time.
Well., it made it home and in the house and before the van was unloaded he started to eat it.
He has seen us eat whole apples before, but he has only ever had apple slices so it was interesting to watch him try to bite through the skin.
He did bite through the skin. If you look hard at the picture with the lens cap, you will see the bite marks.
He only wanted a few bites and then gave it to me to finish. The skin was a tad, bitter but not bad by any means. This is his "I'm done with this face"
Gotta love my goof ball!

Apple Picking
One of our favorite things to do in the fall is pick apples.
Both kids LOVE applesauce and so we make our own and can it to enjoy all
year long. Here are some pics from our trip to Carter Mountain Orchard.
What's a trip to the Apple Orchard without Apple Cider Doughnuts?!?!
While Derek and Chris went to pick Fuji apples in the hills, I started snapping some pictures of Brooke while we waited for them to return.
And finally the obligatory family picture that turned out halfway decent.
